Hey everyone! Today, I am diving into the editing process for my short film opener "Lost Signal." For editing, I'm using DaVinci Resolve and it's been quite a learning experience. I had to watch a couple YouTube videos on how to properly use the software. The biggest challenge was getting my video footage to look good in the software. My phone's default settings were causing quality issues, so I had to go through my camera settings and select the proper video option which was "4k 30 fps."
For video effects, I'm using a digital glitch overlay that matches the theme of my film. Basically, I had to break down each frame so that the glitch effects showed the character's isolation. I'm also experimenting with a software called "Pixelation" where I could add sudden screen flickers and subtle noise that build tension. The transitions are quick and minimal, mostly fast cuts that keep the viewers on edge. Moreover, I also want to get into the color grading process so that I can give my film a more cinematic look. However, it will be a long process as I have to learn how to use it properly and not botch my film. Overall, I really like Davinci Resolve and how the software has mostly all premium features for FREE.
