Hey, my fellow bloggers! In my previous blog, I created a mood board to showcase the feelings that I wanted my film to convey to my audience. Today, I produced a storyboard based on my film and wanted to share it with you guys.
I designed this storyboard to build tension gradually through a phone screen and the things we see around us late at night. Let me walk you through my storyboard for my short film.
The flow:
Think of it like a three-part story:
1. A normal late night
2. Something starts feeling off
3. Things get scary
The story opens at 3:33 AM with someone scrolling through social media in their dark room. Empty energy drinks and snack wrappers show that this certain individual has been up for hours. While checking his feeds, he notices something strange, his friend's "Last Active" status shows they have been offline for over 7 hours. The Wi-Fi signal starts dropping, and apps stop loading. When he looks out his window, all the houses are dark, which is weird even for this time of night. Then his phone gets a message from an unknown number. At first, it is just three dots "...," then the creepy message "Look outside" appears. He checks different apps trying to contact someone, but nothing works. More mysterious messages come in, with the last one saying "You are the last one." As he stares out the window, he sees something move in the shadows. In a panic, he tries to call everyone in his contacts, but every call fails even the police. The final twist comes when his phone screen shows "Battery 1%" and everything goes dark, leaving him completely alone in a world where everyone seems to have vanished.
My film will use various extreme close-ups of the phone to create intimacy and detail. Wide shots will be used to establish isolation. Medium shots will be used to show the character's reactions. Lastly, point-of-view shots will be used to put viewers in the character's position. I believe these varieties of shots will help tell the story visually.
