Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I will be discussing the use of lighting in my short film.
For my film, I will be using low-key lighting to create a sense of isolation and tension. Most of the lighting comes from practical sources like a phone screen, a small desk lamp, dark blue LED lights, and maybe a faint moonlight if that is possible. This makes the film reflect the isolation and uneasiness the character feels. I am avoiding using high key lighting or bright lights because it wouldn't match the theme of my film. Low-key lighting also helps emphasize the mystery and suspense of the scenes.
This lighting style is more of a practical choice. I don't have access to a lot of professional lighting equipment, so I worked with what I've got. That said, this approach of lighting fits the story because the dim lighting shows the character's anxiety. If I had a bigger budget, I would use more tools like soft lights and color filters to add details, like making the room flicker. For now, I think the lighting I choose works the best to support the mood of my film.
