Hey bloggers! Today I want to share some of my thoughts about the main character in my short film. Let's dive into who my character is and why he matters.
Physical Appearance & Costume:
The character wears a dark gray hoodie, black sweatpants, and glasses, a typical outfit. His messy hair and sloppy appearance portray someone who has been awake for too long. The glasses serve a dual purpose: they are practical for someone who always looks at screens and they create interesting reflections during filming.
Props:
His phone is the most important prop, acting as both his connection to the world and eventually his source of fear. Around him are scattered energy drink cans and snack wrappers, implying that he has been awake for countless hours. These props help build the character's story without needing dialogue.
Who is he?
This is an individual who is addicted to the digital world, and used to being awake when others sleep. He is practically not very outgoing, preferring to interact through screens rather than face-to-face. His natural habitat is the lonely hours of the night.
Mental State:
The character starts in a state of satisfaction, just another late night online. As strange things begin to happen, his mental state shifts from mild concern to uneasiness and finally genuine fear. His reactions are realistic, not over-the-top horror movie reactions.
Motivations:
His initial motivation is simple, to stay connected and entertained. When things start going wrong, he feels a strong need to know that he is not alone. When he notices everyone is offline, he wants to figure out why. As he can't reach anyone, he becomes desperate to make contact. This turns into panic as each attempt to reach others fails. As fear sets in, his only goal is to find proof that he is not completely alone.
