Sound

What's up, everyone! Today, I am diving into the sound design process for my short film. Sound is the most important element in a film as it immerses the audience in the story and enhances the overall experience.

The editing software I decided to use is DaVinci Resolve. DaVinci Resolve is free, and I found it relatively easy to get started. Anyhow, I focused on creating non-diegetic sound effects for Wi-Fi interference, screen taps, and iPhone notification sounds. The goal is to make these sounds feel weird and unsettling. As I edit, I am making each sound a little more strange. The Wi-Fi sound starts soft and gets louder. Screen taps will sound more broken and glitchy over time.

For diegetic sounds, I am adding real-world noises from the setting. This includes the rustle of drink cans, the soft click of the character's keyboard, and breathing sounds (hopefully). I am also looking for some background music. I need something that will build suspense without taking over the scene. I was thinking of the soundtrack from the movie Tenent. I like how the Tenet score starts slow and then rapidly picks up intensively. Basically, I want to create a feeling where the viewer feels uncomfortable just by listening to the sounds.
