Supporting Character Analysis

Hey everyone! In my previous blog posts, I mainly focused on my main character and his characteristics. Today, I want to highlight the supporting characters who make this film possible. Since my film follows one character, the props and setting become more like supporting characters themselves.

The Phone

The main character's phone is more than just a prop, it's almost like a second character. At first, it's a friend, showing social media and messages. But as the story goes on, it becomes something else. When strange messages start to appear, it starts to feel like it is working against the main character.

The Room

The character's room changes as the story develops. It starts as a safe space with:

  • A desk lamp giving warm light
  • Comfortable mess of snacks and drinks
  • Late-night vibe setup
  • Shadows grow longer
  • The window becomes a dark mirror
  • The room becomes threatening
The Outside World
The outside world through windows and the phone screen:
  • Empty streets that should have cars
  • Dark houses that should have lights
  • A single flickering street lamp
The Technology
All the character's devices tell part of the story:
  • Apps showing "last active" times
  • Failed message attempts
  • WIFI symbols with no connection
  • Battery indicators
Each prop and part of the setting makes the viewers feel the character's growing isolation. Having multiple characters in this film is not necessary because the props and settings used in this film say enough on their own.
