Hey everyone! I wanted to give you all an update on how the editing process is going for my short film opener. I've been spending a crazy amount of time editing for the past week.
Firstly, the phone screen scenes have been tricky to edit because I have to overlay a phone animation on the actual phone so that the viewers can see what is going on. When I first looked at the footage of the hooded figure scene, I could barely see the figure in the shot. So, I went to YouTube, learned some techniques, and figured out how to adjust the exposure and contrast to make the figure visible. For the sound effects, I found some non-copyright sounds from YouTube and layered them within the video so that it added a creepy feeling to it. Furthermore, the title sequence was actually one of the hardest parts to edit because the animation got so complicated, and I was on a time crunch since the short film opener had to be under 2 minutes. The biggest challenge was making the text look like it was actually glitching out and breaking apart. Every time the text glitches, I sync it with this staticky sound effect that makes it feel like something's really going wrong. Also, I had to make sure the sound matched perfectly with the visuals. When I had to speed up the sequence to fit our time limit, I was worried it wouldn't work. But it ended up working out great.Being the only editor on this project has been a little bit challenging. On one hand, I have complete control over every cut and transition. When I don't like how something looks, I can change it right away. I don't have to ask anyone else if it's okay. But on the other hand, there's no one to take over when I get tired of editing. My eyes start to hurt from looking at the computer screen for too long. Even though I'm the only editor, I'm proud of what I have accomplished.
