Lessons Learned From Filmaking

Hey everyone! Let me tell you about some big lessons I learned while making my film. First, always check your settings before you start filming. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. When I started using my phone to film, I did not know that I was filming in the wrong size, so some of my footage did not fit my screen right. It was very frustrating because I had to film some scenes all over again. Furthermore, the BlackMagic app gave me a lot of trouble because I kept forgetting to change the settings each time I opened the app, and this meant some scenes were too dark or too bright. Now, I always make sure and double-check everything before I press record. Another bug lesson was backing up my files. I almost lost some really good scenes because I did not save them in more than one place.

Being patient is probably the biggest thing I've learned. Sometimes, I would get really motivated to film a scene and rush through it, but then, when I looked at the footage later, I noticed all sorts of issues. For example, I didn't wait for a car to pass by recording, and when I looked at the footage later, I could hear the engine noise in the background. Another example is when I started filming before checking if my camera was in focus. Now, I take my time with everything; I check all my equipment, wait for the right moment, and make sure everything looks good before I start. Even though it takes some time to check if everything is normal, it will save me much time later down the line because I don't have to redo things.
