Special Effects

Hey guys! Today, I want to tell you about the cool effects I used in "Lost Signal."

One of the biggest things I had to figure out was how to show what was happening on the character's phone screen. I wanted everyone to see exactly what the character was seeing when they got those creepy messages. So I learned how to create this thing called an overlay, it's like an effect where you can see both the character and their phone screen at the same time. I put the phone screen on the side of the video so you could see what was going on while also watching how the character reacts to them. It was tricky to edit, but after watching some tutorials, I got it to work. Furthermore, the really cool part was making the phone screen match up with the actual phone in the footage. I had to use something called masking, which is like outlining the phone to make sure everything lined up perfectly. During the film, the character would move around, so I had to make sure the overlay moved with it.

Additionally, I added glitch effects to add tension to the film when scary things happened. I made the screen shake a little bit to give it more of an added effect. I'm proud of myself for getting these effects to work together, and it made everything look so much cooler. One cool camera trick I did was the point-of-view shot, where you can see through the character's eyes as they look out the window. Basically, I held the camera at eye level and moved it slowly, just like a person would move their head. It was so simple to make, I thought this scene was the easiest to make.
